Who we are…
St. Michael’s Catholic School is a place where the faculty and staff know each student by name. Our students receive his/her complete preschool through eighth grade under one roof. Having all students under one roof creates opportunities for different types of interaction and learning. Unity Day, for example, occurs monthly and consists of one child per grade working on an activity together for the community. Along with small class sizes, personal attention, and cutting edge technology, these assets improve student education and parent communication. Each student participates in the celebration of the Eucharist during the school week. In addition to celebrating the Holy Mass each week, Fr. Matt, Fr. Carl and Fr. Mike visit each classroom weekly. Gospel values are incorporated into all curriculum areas daily.
Completing the Student
We are constantly seeking ways to bring the community into our school and the school out into the community. This is the element of our education where we want the gospel values to shine as we carry God’s light to the world. St. Michael’s Catholic School firmly believes that this is where we go beyond reading, writing and arithmetic. Through celebrating the Eucharist, Unity Days, Spirit Days, Catholic School's Week and other activities we work hard at being involved in the community and having the community involved with us. To learn how you can be involved with us please call the school office at 402-494-1526 and ask for Mrs. Crowe.
History & Background
The property currently owned by St. Michael's Parish was purchased in the 1940s. Michael Quinn, who was assigned to St. Michael Parish in 1935 and elevated to the rank of Monsignor while serving here and was very instrumental in getting the school built. Pursuing his desire to offer Catholic schooling, Msgr. Quinn held groundbreaking ceremonies for the present school on July 24, 1949. On September 4, 1950, the grade school was dedicated and blessed by Archbishop Gerald T. Berger. The following week classes began and continue today. The school was an L-shaped building consisting of 6 classrooms, built-in closets and bookcases, office, restrooms and supply room. Provisions had already been made for the extension of two wings to provide for future needs.
Msgr. Quinn felt so strong about the school that is was built before the current church and rectory. The completion of St. Michael School was the result of the many prayers and sacrifices, dreams and hard work of the past of priests and parishioners.
